I've been thoroughly enjoying my foray through Nine's single season for the first time in what must be several years. I hoped to post more, but found I didn't actually have much to say, except how much I'm enjoying it. For the record, though, if anyone's interested, my original S1 reviews can be found here.

But Boom Town, tonight, made me really want to squee a little on how amazing it is, even after all this time.

After my son and I caught up with season 13 in time to watch the S14 specials in the right order, we decided to go right back to the beginning of New Who, because it's AGES since we did that. I don't actually know how long but at least several years, enough that we were really looking forward to it.

We've now watched the first two episodes and were not disappointed.

Had to have myself a little rewatch of The Empty Child to get a good look at the inside of Jack's ship, so I could work out where to make him have sex with himself (not easy, in that ship - it has a distinct lack of flat surfaces and the bunk's too cramped for anything!) and I started thinking about Rose and her "Very... Spock." And then her introduction of the Doctor as Mr Spock.

And I was thinking, it's a bit daft for her to say his ship looks very Spock, when he looks (and is) far more Kirk than Spock. But then I realised she ended up calling the Doctor Spock and that way it makes sense: the alien with the big ears, and the flirty, human Captain.

Huh. Am I really dumb for not getting that before?

In other news, Jack and Jack are going full steam ahead. The fic is now at 2,150 words and I'd like to get to bed at some point but it's still coming out of my head and there's no point trying to sleep until it slows down a bit!

ETA: at 2,721 words and seven minutes past midnight, I'm calling it a night. Who knows, at this rate I may finish this thing tomorrow!

OK. I am posting my bit of meta. I have not read through it all again because I'm too tired so if anyone spots any bits that don't make sense, please let me know! But I'm sick of it and sick of saying I'm going to post it, so I'm just going to go ahead and post it.

Oh, and it's very nearly 6,000 words long. I am not going to blame anybody for running away instead of reading it. I really did write it - or at least start it - because I needed to get my head round the relationships. So if anyone is interested enough to read all the way through, or even just a bit of it, that's great. If you're not, that's fine too. :-)

I didn't remember as much of this one as I thought I did. I remembered the games, but not how much of the episode they took up, and I didn't remember the 'Controller', or just how the Daleks made themselves known…

Shows how busy writing I am, that I watched this on Thursday and wanted to write it up but felt fic should come first! Master Plan Part 7 is nicely underway (though there's still a long way to go yet), and this evening I've actually started on my Big Bang fic. Yes, I know, yesterday I said I wasn't going to start it till January, but living around Anything Goes at the moment got me thinking about Cole Porter and gave me a few ideas, including one for the opening few paragraphs. It feels good to have made a start, but I'm not rushing into this one. I still have a hell of a lot of research to do on the period and Cole Porter!

Anyway. The review.

OK, at this point I realise I don't have a S1 Captain Jack icon. Oh, well, 'Lick Here' will have to do instead.

Hmm. For some reason, this episode took me an hour and ten minutes to watch. Can't think why. I'm sure it wasn't anything to do with the fact that I had to keep rewinding so I could watch every scene with Captain Jack in three or four times…

Hmm. Still need a Ninth Doctor icon. I am looking. But I only really want one, so it's got to be a good, all purpose one. I'm sure I find one in time.

I don't think I'll ever be able to watch this episode without thinking just this one to get through before I get to Captain Jack! Having said that, I really did enjoy it. And it really made me cry. Like mad. I seem to remember crying the first time round too, but now I'm a mother anything to do with parenthood sets me off.

And in the trailers… Captain Jack!!!!!!!! Yay! At last! :-)

At last! Finally the Doctor stops grinning his head off. And finally I find an episode I would actually be perfectly happy to watch again right away (if I didn't have an episode review followed by sleep on the agenda).

Hmmm. Seriously lacking a Ninth Doctor icon here (and no, I don't want one, because he's not pretty enough to make me get rid of a Ten or Jack one), so using my beautiful Ten-on-the-phone one because I never seem to have a suitable opportunity to use it and it's far too pretty to just sit there being unused.

Yes, I've actually managed to tear myself away from my computer long enough to watch some telly :-)

The first of the two-parters. Pretty good stuff.

Some good bits in this one, but it didn’t feel very original and that brings the score down for me.

Just watched the Doctor Who Confidential (BBC3 are showing them along with the episodes) for The End of the World, which goes beyond that episode and into the realm of previous Who aliens and monsters, and it was lovely to see interviews with Peter Davison and Tom Baker (there was a bit of Colin Baker too, but he's just gross now so that wasn't so lovely), and clips from their series.

Sorry, not much point to that - I just wanted to share.

And after that, Naked Captain Jack )

I'll stop spamming now. As I said, just wanted to share :-)

This episode has some good ideas, and creates some great characters (including our first meeting with Captain Jack Harkness, some would have us believe *grin*), but it left me a bit cold.

Since I’ve finally discovered that both UKTV Gold and BBC Three are actually showing season 1, I decided it was time to watch it again, something I’ve been wanting to do ever since seeing Torchwood and Captain Jack again. (And yes, I know I could just buy the DVDs, and I will eventually, but I do object to the prices they ask for them and am trying to wait till they’ve come down a bit.)

So…
