OMG, "Walk Through the Fire" is "Tonight" (the ensemble version) from West Side Story.

This revelation brought to you by me finally catching up with the 'new' (4 year old) movie of WSS tonight, and sitting there going "this feels really familiar, with everyone singing in counterpart and walking purposefully towards the camera - oh wow it's OMWF!

I mean, I probably made the connection way back when I originally saw OMWF but that was, what, 24 years ago (bloody hell) and I've obviously forgotten again in the intervening almost quarter century.

Other things about the new movie: Cut for length )

Thanks to [personal profile] astrogirl for alerting me to this comm! I was feeling like doing a bit of writing (having frustratingly not managed to produce anything for Fandomtrees) and this is perfect. Because of the length of comments, it feels to me a bit like writing RP tags except as a one-off, and I'm trying not to start any new RP threads at the moment because I'm booked in for a hysterectomy on Tuesday 31st. But I've managed three mini fics so far (all either drabbles or half-drabbles because I can't help but aim for a wordcount as well as a sentence count!) and hope to add more throughout the year. There are tonnes of prompts to go for!

My first fic posted this year! I have signed up for [community profile] summer_of_giles again though, so should be posting my follow-up fic to Bridge Over Troubled Water on 6 July, plus I have a new Season of Kink bingo card which I may or may not actually manage to write anything for...

But in the meantime, it's [community profile] intoabar time, so here is my contribution!

Title: Friday Night in Cardiff
Fandom: Torchwood/Angel the Series
Character(s): Gwen Cooper and Harmony Kendall
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1415
Spoilers: Set a long time after the finale of Angel, during the period of Torchwood audio plays when Gwen is rebuilding Torchwood, prior to the Big Finish 'Torchwood series 5: Aliens Among Us'
Disclaimer: Not mine
Summary: Harmony Kendall walks into a bar and meets… Gwen Cooper
Betas: Unbeta'd
Author's Note: Written for [community profile] intoabar 2021.

I am ridiculously amused by the fact that the next episodes in both my Buffy rewatch and my Torchwood one are called "Sleeper".

Honestly, what are the odds? :-D

Wow, this series had no new parts for over a decade, and then two new, full-length, kinky stories in 12 days!!! I'm really rather pleased with this one, and especially the way it seemed to come to me out of thin air. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] rounds_of_kink, for the inspiration!

Title: Under His Spell
Fandom: Torchwood/Buffy
Character(s): Jack Harkness/Rupert Giles
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: D/s, bondage, writing/painting on skin, light breathplay
Word Count: 2,967
Spoilers: Buffy: early S7; Torchwood: pre-series
Disclaimer: Not mine
Summary: Jack is fidgeting; Giles devises ways to keep him still
Betas: Unbeta'd
Author's Note: Written for the April Fool's Mini-Round 2020 at [livejournal.com profile] rounds_of_kink inspired by the prompts: meditation and spine and the kinks: bodypainting or inkbrushing on someone's skin, discipline or punishment, talking and communication issues (silence) and situational engineering (a tiny bit). I also seem to have managed to include D/s, bondage and the inevitable (for me) breathplay! I didn't really manage to get April Fool's in there, although there is a bit of a twist so perhaps it's a slight April Fool's on Jack…

Read it on AO3

This work is unbeta'd so please do let me know if you spot any typos or bits that don't make sense!

Title: Morning After
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Torchwood
Character(s): Rupert Giles/Jack Harkness
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Disclaimer: Not mine
Summary: The morning after Connection
Betas: Unbeta'd
Author's Note: A quick drabble inspired by a few phrases I found scribbled at the bottom of my original draft of the second part of Connection, while I work on vastly remoulding that and adding a lot of new stuff to it – hopefully I'll actually post it one day soon!

Read it on AO3

...I'm still trying to decide where to post new fics other than AO3, if anywhere. My earliest fics were posted in my LJ personal journal, then later in my LJ fic community, then I moved to DW (with mirror posts to LJ) and posted them in the DW fic community, and then the few recent ones have all been for exchanges or challenges so posted to the appropriate communities on DW/LJ! So I have fics everywhere!

I *think* what I'm going to do from now on is make AO3 the main archive (I am very slowly getting everything posted there) with links from each fic there to the original LJ/DW posts so I can still get at the comments - because I love the comments, and yes I do still go back and read the comments! Not just because they're great for my ego, but because so many later fics have been inspired by comments to the earlier ones!

So yeah. I don't think I'm going to actually post this one to DW, just to AO3 with links from here and my Master Fic List.

(Also, please note, this waffle here is longer than the actual drabble I came here to post. That's me, folks!)

Just watched Once More, With Feeling for the first time in years (I play/sing along with it fairly frequently in the car, but that's not quite the same) and still loved it just as much as ever. Every single second of it, there's so much going on, so much detail to see and to hear in the music and the lyrics.

And, because I just looked through my journal and discovered I have never posted a review of OMWF, I've dragged out the Word draft of a review I apparently wrote in November 2004 (and presumably posted to the Buffy Beeb Boards where I was hanging out in those days), so it's here too for posterity. :-)

Woah, long, long time since my last post. Long time since I even logged in as Unfeathered, to be honest. My transition out of fandom back into real life has finally become complete enough that now I'm even too busy in RL even to tag my RP threads, a lot of the time. How things have changed since I first started out on LJ, desperate for an escape from RL!

But, even though I sincerely doubt anyone's still reading my journal, I had to come on here and share that I've just shared Buffy with my son for the first time. Cut for length )

Anyway. I'm just so chuffed that, having shared the whole of Doctor Who (except Torchwood, obviously!) with him, I can now share my first fannish love with him too!

I was looking forward to getting to In the Dark in my Angel S1 rewatch and it was just as much fun as I remembered. But the moment it started, I couldn't help thinking of the similiarites with KKBB. Mainly because they both start with James Marsters up on a roof giving us a nice little introduction to his character. And of course because he's basically playing the same part in both of them. Old shag (I would say love but that's not really true in either case) of the leading man - the dark, mysterious, older-than-he-looks leading man - with whom he has a love/hate relationship. Meeting the team and chatting up the girls (Cordy/Tosh/Gwen) and the girls falling for it, even if only briefly. And there's torture in ITD while in KKBB Jack's just got back from the year on the Valiant. Both episodes even end with another rooftop scene and a sunset! (Or is it sunrise in KKBB? I can't remember. Same coloured sky, anyway!)

I know it's nothing deep, but it amused me, and I can't help wondering how much of the mirroring in KKBB was deliberate!

I've started watching Buffy again after a bit of a hiatus, due to the fact that last year I finally (after 8 years) finished my viewing of all seasons in order. The reason that took so long was that at the end of 2005 I became a mother and everything else pretty much went out the window! And also the fact that Buffy was over and I got into the Doctor Who/Torchwood fandom instead (and started writing fanfic and role-playing), so watching Buffy and Angel moved a long way down the list of priorities. But actually, the slow-down was good because it meant that by the time I got to the later seasons of both shows which I hadn't liked so much originally, I really, really enjoyed them.

Cut for rambling )

This is the ficlet I wrote for the first challenge of the first round of [livejournal.com profile] kink_las. I have to admit I'm not entirely happy with it and it could definitely use some work, but it looks as if I'm not going to get round to doing that work and since it's been posted already, I think I'm just going to leave it as it is. But I wanted to post it in my fic community as a record so here it is:

Okay, so last Thursday I was bored at work and Morgyn prompted me and fic ensued. It's probably the least plotty PWP I've ever written, but I enjoyed writing it and it was an interesting exercise because it's entirely without dialogue and entirely without mentioning names.

Little tidbit spotted whilst looking up 'Koschei' in Wiki:
