(Note: icon chosen because this episode was a bit 'pants' *g*)
Bit of a let down after the brilliance of Dalek, this one. I suppose they needed a lighter one here after that, but it's not really much of anything. It's not a comedy episode, it's not particularly dramatic, it's not particularly exciting. And Adam is really pathetically annoying. I'm glad they didn't keep him any longer than this. (Well, I suspect they planned to get rid of him here from the start, to surprise us.)
Not sure what to say about this one, actually. I've got a lot fewer notes written down than I normally have. So what have I got?
Adam fainting when confronted with the future – OK, that was vaguely amusing, though rather predictable.
"And on the Bad Wolf Channel, the Face of Boe has just announced he's pregnant." Something that sounds very different following a certain revelation at the end of Season 3!
Cathica was quite a good character – brainy but not used to thinking, very down to earth. I liked the way she saved the day in the end, by following the Doctor's advice and actually using her brain – literally.
Rose to Doctor: "Trouble?" Doctor, with a warm smile down at Rose: "Oh, yeah." The Doctor really has stopped grinning maniacally all the time, now that the truth is out about the Time War. And I like him so much better for it. Christopher Eccleston was great in this episode.
Suki (whom I spent the whole episode staring at going "I know her" – turns out she's the girl from Bleak House, oh and Jane Austen's sister from Becoming Jane) was rather sweet and I loved the reveal that she was actually a freedom fighter. Didn't last long though – though I knew she wouldn't. She was the example character.
The observation deck looked suspiciously like the one from The End of the World. I think they could have changed it just a little more…
Adam's nurse (whom I did recognise as the woman from Green Wing even though I only watched one episode before deciding it was a load of drivel) was a lovely character, really creepy. Loved the fact that Adam's chip meant his vomit came out as an ice-cube. That was just really funny.
The Editor. I thought he was a bit boring – and the Doctor arrived on floor 500 and the Editor came alive. And actually kind of turned into the Tenth Doctor. (Maybe it was just me, but he really sounded like David Tennant, as the Doctor.) Very cool interplay between the two of them.
The alien in the ceiling was just absolutely pathetic. It was quite scary for the first half of the episode, when they were deliberately not showing it. Then they showed it and I just couldn't take it seriously any more. Sorry. CGI aliens, most of the time, just do not do it for me.
The dog dancing around Adam's answerphone was quite amusing. As was the way the Doctor and Rose kept clicking their fingers to open Adam's chip when they dropped him off. He so deserved that. Mind you, I could see the punch-line, with his mum clicking her fingers, coming a mile off. Still made me smile though.
So there we are then. Bit of a non-entity, as I said.
5/10

And actually kind of turned into the Tenth Doctor.
Huh. Maybe I'll just watch *that* part, then. *g*

Yep, loved that, added a nice bit of humor.
I almost stopped watched Doctor Who after seeing this episode. I gave it one more chance (Father's Day, which I thought was even worse and had actually decided to quit watching the show entirely when I was informed I *HAD* to watch "Empty Child" or else) I thought they were a bit mean to Adam. Yes, he screwed up, but to leave him like that?
The alien was terrible. Just badly done. 100% agree with you there!
I really didn't understand how the year 200,000 that we saw was so different from what how the Doctor thought it was supposed to be and why/how that could happen. I wish RTD would explain that sort of thing

Phew! How close you came to not seeing John Barrowman! I'm pretty sure I was spoiled at that point that he was going to be in it and just hanging on for those episodes.
Father's Day - I remember quite liking it, but we'll see...
This one - see my comment to Medley.

Yes, as we were saying the other day, so do I!
