My original review (on second viewing in 2007) here: https://unfeathered.dreamwidth.org/44258.html
OMG, Baby Tennant! Wasn't he adorable? And yet so unformed. <3
Except... What grabbed me most this time around was all the foreshadowing. Ten was busy finding out what sort of man he was, and there was a fair bit of Time Lord Victorious there already. Even amongst all the amiable idiot acting, there was "I don't know when to stop" and of course "No second chances. I'm that sort of a man." And "When you talk of the Earth, then make sure that you tell them this. It is defended." (Although that brings a lot of Eleven to mind, too.) And then the whole challenging Harriet Jones and bringing her down with just six words.
Oh yeah, that was all there right from the beginning. I just never saw it before through all the disarmingly cute stuff.
On a personal note, I realised belatedly whilst watching this time with my 18 year-old son that this is the episode that was airing while I gave birth to him. I mean literally: he was born at 8:32pm on Christmas Day 2005 and I have very vague memories of this episode being on the telly in the hospital room while I was having a lot of contractions and being in a lot of pain and basically high on gas and air. I don’t think I actually watched it, and in fact I might have got someone to change the channel so I wouldn't be spoiled, but it was definitely on. I don't actually remember when I did get to watch it…

That is definitely a very... unusual first experience of Ten!

Anyway, since hubby didn't remember either when we did actually watch The Christmas Invasion, I checked the diary I actually managed to keep going for around six months around that time and discovered that: yes, on Christmas Day I did get him to turn the tv off when Doctor Who came on, and that we eventually watched the episode on 7 January 2006, so around two weeks late.
My very brief review there read:
"Oh, and in the evening, we watched the Christmas Doctor Who and I completely fell for David Tennant – he’s gorgeous, and a great character! Very enjoyable episode – can’t wait till the next series."
Not exactly exciting but clearly I enjoyed it!

A question for the ages. If you ever find out, do share!

! I hope you managed to stay unspoiled. ^_^

He was asleep for most of it...
