Thought on The Empty Child

Had to have myself a little rewatch of The Empty Child to get a good look at the inside of Jack's ship, so I could work out where to make him have sex with himself (not easy, in that ship - it has a distinct lack of flat surfaces and the bunk's too cramped for anything!) and I started thinking about Rose and her "Very... Spock." And then her introduction of the Doctor as Mr Spock.

And I was thinking, it's a bit daft for her to say his ship looks very Spock, when he looks (and is) far more Kirk than Spock. But then I realised she ended up calling the Doctor Spock and that way it makes sense: the alien with the big ears, and the flirty, human Captain.

Huh. Am I really dumb for not getting that before?

In other news, Jack and Jack are going full steam ahead. The fic is now at 2,150 words and I'd like to get to bed at some point but it's still coming out of my head and there's no point trying to sleep until it slows down a bit!

ETA: at 2,721 words and seven minutes past midnight, I'm calling it a night. Who knows, at this rate I may finish this thing tomorrow!

1,481 words, and he's just about to shag himself. I wanted it done tonight, but it won't be. Need bed too!

As for the Spock thing, I thought Rose was just plucking the only Star Trek name she could think of out of her head. She doesn't seem like much of a sci-fi fan. I really like the idea, though, of Jack as the flirty Captain and Nine as the big-eared logical alien. Do you think they meant it like that? Poor old Eccleston and his ears!

And yeah, I tend to forget someone like Rose probably wouldn't have grown up watching (repeats of) the original Star Trek as I did. Fair enough. :-)

It's just that her comment about the Doctor not being very Spock because he didn't scan for alien things sounded to me like she did know who Spock was, because he did tend to be the one with the tricorder scanning for things...

And well done on the word count! We're all going at this like mad, aren't we? It's such a lot of fun!

I'm pretty chuffed with how the fest is going. There's one person whose non-LJ using daughter has written a story and got her mum to post it up. And all this fantastic art we're getting! It's brilliant.

I never thought of the spock/kirk thing like that either. No idea why she brought it up in the first place, although it did lead to the great line "What was I supposed to say, you don't have a name! Don't you ever get tired of 'Doctor'? Doctor who?"

Well, I'm feeling clever now, because I seem to be the first to make the connection! :-)

And Jack and Jack are coming along very nicely. In fact they have just come very nicely. *g*

3,575 words now! Though I seem to have ground to a halt for a while, which is probably because it's 4.30 on a Friday afternoon and I've been writing this pretty solidly for the last 48 hours, as well as working etc. etc.! Haven't even had a chance to work on MP amendments because this thing wouldn't stop flooding out!

... *giggles* Oh, brilliant. Can't wait to read it! I had to stop writing yesterday in order to study some French, otherwise I would've been rather screwed today and now I've realised that Time Agency!Jack does need anoter first name, too, so I'm pondering upon that at the moment.
