Dear Spacer

Thank you so much for this, and I really, really hope you find something here you can write!

To be honest, I'm really not very good at giving prompts because I'm into such a wide range of things, and often don't know what I want until I've got it! (Sorry!) But one way of understanding what I'm into might be to have a glance at the fics I've written – most of them were written long ago but my tastes haven't really changed. (My fics can all be found here)

My absolute favourite is anything that invokes really strong emotions. This *can* be from sex, but also from really dark stuff (I *adore* hurt/comfort), fear, passion, love, loathing, you get the picture!

Everything is still awesome. Just as awesome as the first one. I already want to go and see it again!

Over the years I've come across a lot of kinks and, while some of them don't do much for me, very few of them squick me. Cut for discussion of adult baby kink )

It's not an area I ever thought I'd be giving much thought to, but it certainly is interesting!

Wow, what an awesome episode! So many wonderful moments between the key characters, and I especially love the scenes between Anthony Head and Richard Wilson. How lucky to have two actors of such calibre on the screen together! I mean, the young cast of this series are really very good, but actors with this much experience really do bring something special to a show.

Oh wow. I got this for Christmas and finally had a chance to listen to it today whilst doing my ironing (definitely livened up the ironing!) and, well, obviously it was going to be tremendous fun, with Jack Harkness and John Hart finally getting to play off each other again, but wow, it really was fun!

Cut for spoilers )

Great fun. Highly recommend. :-)

Loved these too! Lighthearted plots that kept moving nicely, loads of really charismatic, likeable actors, great chemistry between especially Arthur and Merlin but also Merlin and Gwen, Arthur and Morgana, and Merlin and Gaius. And Anthony Head being cool and awesome, and his character actually being given three dimensions (which I honestly didn't expect) and having to make the hard choices. Really, really loving it. :-)

Okay, so I am *really* behind the times, but I just watched the first episode of Merlin for the first time and I loved it! Way more than I ever expected to. I always meant to watch it at some stage, and I did watch a few minutes here and there, but it never grabbed me. And then the other day I noticed that SyFy were showing it from the beginning and so I started recording it, and my son (13) (who is also into Arthur through the Michael Morpurgo Pendragon books) and I just watched the first episode and it was great! I feel so bad that I never started watching it earlier! I mean, obviously, Anthony Head, and Richard Wilson, plus I've role-played with an awesome Merlin (plus Colin Morgan was in DW), plus Katie McGrath (who I watched in Supergirl for 3 or 4 years before I realised she was also Morgana!) (and I've also role-played with a Morgana, now I think about it!), plus I grew up reading the Arthurian legend, first of all in The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper, then in Mary Stewart's Merlin series, and then various others including The Mists of Avalon and the Gillian Bradshaw trilogy, and, well. This was obviously made for me. What a shame it's taken me so long to give it a go!

(P.S. Sorry for any rambling. This review was brought to you courtesy of a couple of strong gin & tonics after a rather crappy day!)

Well, that's another series over (apart from the not!Christmas special) and I don't really feel anything. Which has been my whole problem with the series, tbh. I was so looking forward to it, but although I like the characters well enough – especially Graham – the whole thing has left me feeling incredibly meh. I haven't even felt interested enough to read many reviews, which at least Moffat's series' did, even if it was mostly to ridicule the plot or the inconsistencies etc. This series has felt a lot more consistent (although I'm not sure the plots actually make much more sense, but then that's DW!) but for me it's just never really got going.

I think a large part of that is the lack of humour. I came to new!Who on the back of Buffy/Angel, which I adored because of the way Joss mixed deep, dark drama with witty one-liners and banter. This series has had very little of that, and I didn't realise that that was what was missing until last week (the Norwegian one) when I suddenly found myself laughing – ironically enough, I think it was at Ryan's comment about "We'd know if we were vampires, right?"

Also, possibly, these companions are too nice. While they do feel like good, rounded characters, apart from Graham I don't feel they've really challenged the Doctor much. And of course the Doctor herself is a lot nicer so maybe that's a part of the problem too? I love Jodie and have no problem with a female Doctor and it's been really interesting seeing the differences it's made, but perhaps this particular difference isn't one that's good for the kind of stories I've come to love?

I'm really hoping that when I come to rewatch the season I will find more in it to enjoy, as has been the case in the past, especially when getting used to a new Doctor/showrunner. Unfortunately, that will mean I've missed a lot of the discussion, although perhaps the new insurgence of Tumblr refugees will provide some new forums for discussion. Here's hoping. I'm not ready to let go of being a fan of this show yet!

I really liked it. I wasn't blown away, but then I rarely am by a new Doctor, as I seem to take time to get to grips with them, but I suspect that when I come back to this episode knowing Thirteen I will love it. :-)

Cut for spoilers )

But generally? I enjoyed it, and am definitely looking forward to more!

Just watched Once More, With Feeling for the first time in years (I play/sing along with it fairly frequently in the car, but that's not quite the same) and still loved it just as much as ever. Every single second of it, there's so much going on, so much detail to see and to hear in the music and the lyrics.

And, because I just looked through my journal and discovered I have never posted a review of OMWF, I've dragged out the Word draft of a review I apparently wrote in November 2004 (and presumably posted to the Buffy Beeb Boards where I was hanging out in those days), so it's here too for posterity. :-)

My fic, To Love and Let Go, has been posted over at Winter Companions: Dreamwidth / Livejournal!

It's the first proper fic I've posted in seven years and five days, and I'm really pleased with it. And I really enjoyed writing it and I'm looking forward to writing more.

(My main problem these days is that I'm just not reading enough of other people's ideas about Doctor Who (or anything) to spark off ideas (and I don't really know where to go to find those!) but researching for this fic has got me thinking about the Doctor's self-imposed exile at St Luke's University so I think there may be more coming out of that!

If that doesn't work, I still have a tonne of almost-finished fics from about ten years ago that it would be lovely to get *actually* finished!)

Anyway, for now, my fic's up, and will soon be followed by more from other authors which I am really looking forward to reading!

So... I have actually almost written a fic. (Yes, really!) I'm 1,800 words into my Winter Companion fic and not much more to go, which is good as it's supposed to be in by Tues 24th!

So, is there anyone out there in the remains of my decade-old friends list who would be up for beta'ing this thing? I have a couple of other places to ask, but thought I'd try my friends first, because you all know me. I'm not looking for anything in mega detail - I don't think I could take that any more! - just someone to give it a once-over and make sure it makes sense and grammar pick etc.

Any takers? Pretty please?

I just signed up for round ten at [community profile] wintercompanion. I've been thinking more about doing some proper writing again, now that my role-playing has dwindled considerably due to no longer being in a game, just doing the odd meme. A lot of that has been down to the fact that my life has been absolutely chock-full for the last couple of years since I became secretary of my drama group, but that role is coming to an end in a couple of weeks and also the show we were going to do in October has had to be cancelled due to lack of interest and being unable to cast it, so... at least until November, when we start for the next show, I actually have several months ahead with a great big hole in them! And obviously, I'm not just going to sit down and have a break like I probably ought to, because I am terrible at sitting around and doing nothing. But the drama is something I do for me, and if I haven't got that, I'm going to fill that time with something else that I do just for me, something I enjoy and haven't given enough time to for far too long.

So. I really do think I ought to be able to produce 500 words of Doctor/Jack fic by 24 July, oughtn't I?

And then maybe I'll have the time to go back to Master Plan and finally finish that off, and perhaps a couple of other fics that have been sitting there *almost* finished for about ten years...

By the way, sign-ups close at the end of tomorrow (29 June) and there aren't many people signed up yet so if there's anyone out there who'd like to take part, please go and sign up! :-)

Watched this last night (thanks to a tip from a fellow RP-er that we really ought to see it before going to see Avengers: Infinity War tonight) and it was awesome! So much fun, and so much character development! Cut for spoilers )

Overall verdict? Loved it. :-)

OMG. I just finished listening this and I had to post straight away because it is AWESOME! As I've said before, I am really not into audio only because I find it hard to maintain concentration and I just really, really miss the visuals of the actors' faces etc., but wow. I was excited going into this one because it was about Jack at the Time Agency, but it not only exceeded my expectations, it really blew me away!

For Christmas I got the Big Finish "The Lives of Captain Jack" CDs. I am not at all into audio plays because I am a very visual person and find it hard to manage without the visuals, especially faces, and without the descriptions of thought processes you get in written media, but I'd already tried out "Broken" and "The Conspiracy" last year and when this boxset came out I knew I had to have it. I mean, the chance to get even a tiny glimpse into some of Jack's past that's been glossed over on the TV? Who wouldn't want that?

(I'd also really, really love some new *future* canon, even if it isn't really considered canon, but just *something* to give me *some* ideas for role-playing purposes of what Jack might be up to post-Miracle Day. Maybe that'll come next? *crosses fingers*)

Anyway, I just listened to "The Year After I Died" and it was pretty good. A rather big section in the middle with no Jack (I mean, he's who we're all here for, isn't he!) but otherwise pretty entertaining and it felt like it fitted well into the DW universe. Not as many new insights into Jack as I'd hoped for, but there were some nice little snippets.

Cut for story spoilers (though more about Jack than the story) )
