During lockdown in March 2020, I started watching Supernatural all the way through from the start, and yesterday I finished it. (That makes it roughly one episode every three days, I calculate!) I loved it. I wish I'd started watching it much, much earlier while it was still airing so I could join in the fandom conversations, even though I really wouldn't have had the time for that. But oh boy, this show really did hit all the same things for me as Buffy and New Who and MCU - great characters, warmth and humour and emotion and some rollicking good stories.
The very last episode was... both very satisfying and a little disappointing. I didn't like Sam having to carry on without Dean for so long, but he did seem fairly happy with it so I suppose I can't begrudge him that. Dean's death scene was incredibly well done - at first it felt over-acted as I assumed something would come to save Dean (Cas? Jack?) as it always did, but as it went on and I realised that this really was it - well, I just ended up bawling my eyes out. Great acting from both the boys. And the two of them ending up in a heaven where people could actually be together, well that just meant that they could finally have the life we all wanted them to have on earth so I guess I'm okay with that. Nice to see Bobby at the end. I wish they could have been shown reuniting with more friends (especially Cas) but I understand the Covid restrictions of the time and I think they made it work very well with what they could do. As I said, satisfying.
Now I need another show to watch and look forward to new episodes of, since there's so very little Doctor Who to talk about these days. Anyone have any suggestions? Most of the things I've found lately seem to be just mini-series, which are great but I'd love something a bit more long-running, or at least the potential to be!

As for recs, ane of my favourite shows is Grimm - have you ever watched it? No match for Supernatural's fifteen, but it still has six seasons. *g*

Grimm - thank you - I have never watched it so will put it on the list and have a look!

Let's see, suggestions for new shows... Granted, I don't know what you've already seen but I'm going off your tag list.
Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis: 10 seasons and 5 seasons respectively. Honestly, since you like DW and ST:TNG, I'm surprised you haven't watched these already. Start with the Stargate movie to get important backstory, then go into SG-1. Personally I'm more attached to Atlantis, but both are excellent.
Heroes season 1 (but not the rest of it). Excellent story.
The Good Place.
Have you seen Broadchurch? The first season is the best but I also really enjoyed the third.
And just cause we just saw it ourselves and loved it, have you seen Wandavision?

Stargate... I have seen the movie a couple of times and also watched a couple of episodes years ago but it just didn't grab me. :-(
Heroes - I did watch the first couple of episodes when it first aired but never continued. I am role-playing with an AU Peter Petrelli though, so have considered it as something to potentially go back to.
The Good Place - hubby watched that and I heard quite a lot of it from my desk - something I might enjoy at some point.
Broadchurch - I watched the first season when it was on during lockdown and did enjoy it, but haven't been able to get hold of the other seasons yet.
Wandavision - oh yes, loved that. Jackster and I have been watching all the MCU mini-series since we got Disney+ and very much enjoy them. I really love the MCU, but it's all movies and mini-series - big chunks of stuff and then nothing for ages, if you know what I mean? Plus it's all streaming or in cinemas so it's hard to discuss one installment online without getting spoiled for the rest. Which really bugs me. I miss weekly episodes and being able to talk about that one before the next one comes along!
But thank you, some useful things for my list there!

As for other shows, hmmm. Apologies if you have already watched these...
The Umbrella Academy (love it to pieces, amazing characters with genuinely great arcs, crazy world building, 3 seasons have aired, one still to come).
The Boys (gets VERY dark, but also v compelling. The most realistic superhero show that reflects out world disturbingly accurately). More to come I'm sure.
I'm half asleep, but will be back.

I didn't like The Boys but not because it wasn't good - it was very good, and it has Karl Urban, who I just love - but because I don't like hyper-dark in my superhero shows. I definitely recommend trying it out, though.

S3 is... not at tight as the first two, but the character stuff is *chef's kiss* I loved it to absolute pieces.
but because I don't like hyper-dark in my superhero shows.
Oh I hear ya. I love it, but it's hard work.

I kept meaning to look at The Umbrella Academy but never got round to it - if there's still some to come I might put that at the top of my list, as these days I can actually catch up using the streaming services and then watch live (something I couldn't do in the early days of SPN)!
The Boys - I did look at that because Jensen + Karl Urban, but it didn't look like it would appeal. I do generally watch TV for escapism, not super-dark stuff! But I might give it a go... :-)

I love it so much. It's one of my absolute favourite shows, and sort of impossible to describe - it has its very own flavour of crazy world building. It also has some of my favourite characters of all time, and I would literally watch them read the phone book. Because they would make it fabulous.

It's complicated, because it IS dark and like watching the real world, just with [realistic] superheroes, and yet it's also ridiculous and funny and OTT. There is a lot of violence and a lot of sex/nudity, a LOT of which is... very gross and very inventive. But it also does something I've rarely seen done as well, which is show realistic reactions and consequences for dealing with that kinda thing. The characters suffer from PTSD or OCD or anxiety etc etc, and bad guys who seems like a cartoon stereotypes are afforded backstories and character development (not always positive development, mind you) and it's just so chewy and complex. Plus the 'good guys' are often hella grey and the show doesn't shy away from that either. So yeah - hugely recommended, but you might have to watch certain parts through your fingers.
