During lockdown in March 2020, I started watching Supernatural all the way through from the start, and yesterday I finished it. (That makes it roughly one episode every three days, I calculate!) I loved it. I wish I'd started watching it much, much earlier while it was still airing so I could join in the fandom conversations, even though I really wouldn't have had the time for that. But oh boy, this show really did hit all the same things for me as Buffy and New Who and MCU - great characters, warmth and humour and emotion and some rollicking good stories.
The very last episode was... both very satisfying and a little disappointing. I didn't like Sam having to carry on without Dean for so long, but he did seem fairly happy with it so I suppose I can't begrudge him that. Dean's death scene was incredibly well done - at first it felt over-acted as I assumed something would come to save Dean (Cas? Jack?) as it always did, but as it went on and I realised that this really was it - well, I just ended up bawling my eyes out. Great acting from both the boys. And the two of them ending up in a heaven where people could actually be together, well that just meant that they could finally have the life we all wanted them to have on earth so I guess I'm okay with that. Nice to see Bobby at the end. I wish they could have been shown reuniting with more friends (especially Cas) but I understand the Covid restrictions of the time and I think they made it work very well with what they could do. As I said, satisfying.
Now I need another show to watch and look forward to new episodes of, since there's so very little Doctor Who to talk about these days. Anyone have any suggestions? Most of the things I've found lately seem to be just mini-series, which are great but I'd love something a bit more long-running, or at least the potential to be!
