My son (Jack, now aged 15) and I have started rewatching the Sarah Jane Adventures, since we finished our rewatch of Doctor Who (which I just realised I haven't posted yet, so will do that next!!!). We are four stories in (just finished Warriors of Kudlak). And boy, coming headlong back into the RTD era from the Chibnall era is just... mindblowing. Here, there are stories, there are emotions, there are characters we care about, and it's... well, to be honest, we're agreed we rather wish we hadn't made the transition because it's made it so damn clear what the latest reinvention of DW is missing! I know we moaned about RTD at the time, but damn, the man knew what was important and how to tell a story.

I've been trying very hard to convince myself that the last two seasons of DW haven't been that bad, but damn. That's just not true. I feel genuinely sorry for Jodie Whitaker and Bradley Walsh and everyone else who's a good actor who's had to make do with really shit writing, because it's true, it really has been shit.

Apologies for language. It's Friday night and I've had a couple of gins. That doesn't make this any less true, sadly. :-(

As I said to Jack, at least we have lots of DVDs of the good stuff.

(Also, wow, I don't have a SJA tag! Well, I didn't. I do now!)

Iiinteresting. Partly because my 15 year old & I (and sort-of my other half) started a Doctor Who re-watch AGES ago and have stalled in the middle of S2. At some point we'll pick up again, but there is a hump of episodes to get over... I remember SJA fondly as 'the show the children liked that I would occasionally watch with them, but always found too much of a children's show to get into'*

I hadn't thought of it as a contrast to Chibnall Who. Hmmmm. (I don't understand how Chibnall got it wrong. The man can write, I love loads of his Torchwood episodes especially, it's so WEIRD.)

Here's to gin!

*This is entirely on me, and very subjective. I wish I could have loved it better.

S2 of DW or S2 of SJA?
DW!

And made the realisation that, like a lot of 'children's TV' it's actually far more complex and well-rounded and satisfying than a lot of 'adult TV'... (Not saying you have to like it, just that's what we felt.)
Oh I agree, it's heads & shoulders above a lot of other stuff it just isn't for me. Which is annoying, because I like to know ALL THE THINGS. I watched a fair bit, and the wedding episode is definitely <3 <3 <3

And god yes. I love S1 and 2 of TW. The whole dysfunctional family thing, the interesting characters, the feels. I don't get how this is the same man who brought that together!
A mystery for the ages.

Ah, right, yeah, S2 of DW is... probably my least favourite of new Who.
I am half-asleep and genuinely did a double-take, because I basically wrote that sentence earlier on and deleted it. *g*

When we did our latest rewatch, we skipped quite a bit of that season!
We have so far watched EVERYTHING (partly because in many cases it's been forever since we saw it, and in some cases I'm sure the 15 year old never watched it properly, being about 1 at the time). But it's hard to summon the enthusiasm. I need to focus on Martha and then Donna. <3

It really is. The whole stuff with Sarah Jane and Ten is tear-jearking in the extreme.
Poor Sarah Jane.

You might like coming in to some of the later seasons. Especially the last season. That was really, really strong stuff. (just a thought, no pressure!)
Once I have conquered Classic Who, we'll see.
