I remember SJA fondly as 'the show the children liked that I would occasionally watch with them, but always found too much of a children's show to get into' See, that's what I always expected it to be, and why I resisted watching it at all for a couple of years. Then we (Jack and I) turned on the telly one day and it had just started the SJA pilot ep and we started watching and got hooked! And made the realisation that, like a lot of 'children's TV' it's actually far more complex and well-rounded and satisfying than a lot of 'adult TV'... (Not saying you have to like it, just that's what we felt.)
I don't understand how Chibnall got it wrong. The man can write, I love loads of his Torchwood episodes especially, it's so WEIRD. And god yes. I love S1 and 2 of TW. The whole dysfunctional family thing, the interesting characters, the feels. I don't get how this is the same man who brought that together!
