*sighs with relief*
I was so scared that RTD was going to spoil everything - and Joss all the decisions I've had to make about the Master in order to write him - and he didn't! Or only in minor ways, anyway. So mostly I'm just a huge puddle of relief!
But more than that, it was *fun*. He made the multiple Masters thing work (amazingly), the cactus people were fun, there was racing about and the Doctor being wheeled about in that chair, and space ship fights, and Wilf being cool and amazing, and wow! Time Lords!
On the down side, there was the total cop-out with Donna, no Romana as President (though maybe she'd been killed/deposed by then), and the interminable milking of the Tenth Doctor's goodbyes. All that "I've still got things I want to do" was annoying. That section at the end where all his companions got their curtain calls really was such an anti-climax after all the high tension before it. Yeah, nice to see them all again, but it was just a bit silly. It felt to me far more like RTD and DT saying their goodbyes than the Doctor. He's never been like that before, on regenerating, has he? And since when did he have time to do all that before regeneration really took hold anyway???
On the other hand, it was quite cool to go back in time to see Rose. As soon as I saw the Powell Estate, I realised that was what he'd done. And of course quite funny that that was where he collapsed last time he regenerated too.
And did I hear right? Did the Doctor call the President 'Rassilon'???

Yes, you did.

And yes, of course it was lovely to see his companions, but a brief glimpse a la Logopolis or something would have been enough!

That must be it!
I think I might just out all the drama down to Ten's bipolar personality. I was just starting to like the new spoiled-brat version of Ten, actually.

Have to say, we didn't really get any more of the Time Lord VIctorious thing, did we? Obviously Adelaide shooting herself did actually kick that out of him after all, but it would have been fun to have seen a bit more of that.

I keep forgetting I have a Ten icon :D

Couldn't help thinking that if they'd given every other "special" this past year the extra 20 minutes they devoted to the milking on this one, we'd have had no WTF moments all year.

(1) No. (2) Never.
And did I hear right? Did the Doctor call the President 'Rassilon'???
Yes and yes. Perhaps two or three minutes could have been redirected away from the "milking" to explaining this, 'cause Rassilon wasn't such a nutbag in Classic Who.
Generally entertaining, though.

Tbh, I felt all the other specials were too long as well, paticularly Waters of Mars. Though perhaps I'm just used to the normal length/the length of American shows, or I've been watching too much classic Who. *g*

My initial response was that perhaps he was just named after Rassilon, but there was that comment he made earlier - "I will not die!" oslt - which does sound rather like Rassilon, doesn't it? The Doctor did seem to be saying they'd all gone nuts at the end, though, which would explain that part of it!

*thinks*
Hmm. Given the fact that it appeared to be a weapon that killed people rather than resurrecting them, I'm inclined to say no. It probably just looked like it. There are only so many different looks one can give to a gauntlet, after all!
