Today, and a meme

Mum has a stomach bug so won't be able to look after Jack this afternoon, so as I have plenty of leave left (I'm still only just using up the extra I had after my maternity leave!) I'm taking the afternoon off work. So, apart from an hour or two this afternoon when we're going to go round and give Mum some company, I'll be here all day, till rehearsal this evening! Yay!

So, to keep us all occupied, have a meme, stolen off most of my flist (which I'm hoping now to actually have time to read today).

Ask me a question about one of my stories. It can be absolutely anything in any fic and I will tell you the honest-to-god answer. Don’t hold back. Ask about my plans for future parts of my current series if you want to, but keep in mind, I may not have anything firm/definite in the works. Anything. Whatever you ask, I will try my best to answer.

Oh, and I really will try to finish my third draft of the Doctor/Master fic and get it back to Alex...

Did you have a definite end-point in mind for 'Master Plan' when you started it?

Um. I was going to say yes, but actually when I started it, it was literally going to be a one-off.

But pretty much as soon as I got the end of the first part, I knew there were going to be more, and then I knew it was going to go all the way back to canon at the end of the year.

Even when I started, though, it was meant to be canon-compliant. Missing scene, rather than AU.

how did you first come up with the idea of Giles and Jack meeting? Did anything in particular inspire it?

It's a very unromantic story, actually. I wanted to slash Jack with someone but didn't like or know Owen or Ianto well enough at the time. And it never even occurred to me to slash him with the Doctor at that point, because the Doctor seemed completely asexual to me, and it took a while of reading fanfic to be able to accept Doctor slash. In fact, I'm fairly sure the first that really swung me round to believing in it was Becky's Naked.

So, anyway, lacking anyone in DW or TW to put with Jack, I turned to the only other fandom I know well enough to write. The Angel fic actually came first. But I was really getting into Giles at the time too, so I started that one too. And it worked, so I finished that one first.

As for how they met... that took a bit of doing, since I couldn't come up with any ideas for an alien or whatever to bring them together. Then I was watching bits of Buffy season 4 (actually as research for Behind Blue Eyes) and came up with the idea of them bonding over singing.

Hey, I like that world. I'm happy to write more of it.

What I need to do, actually, is re-read Connection and then take a look at that second chapter, because I have a feeling it's not as good as I thought it was - I've learned a LOT since then - and decide whether to go with it or something else entirely.

I'm sure I'll continue to dabble in it with the odd drabble though.
