Finish-a-thon writing!

I wasn't getting anywhere with my Master/Doctor fic (in the few moments I spent looking at it in the last couple of days when I didn't have three or four active RP threads going on) and I suddenly remembered the finish-a-thon. So I had a look at my Angel/Jack fic and thought I'd try a change of POV to get me unstuck on that one - and now I have nearly 400 new words written! Still a long way to go, but at least I'm going on it again!

Okay, here you go. It's very rough, mind, but this is the start. It's set in the 1950s - there's an Angel episode set then where he's living in the Hyperion Hotel, which is where Angel Investigations is based in the present day.

Angel’s on his way back to the Hyperion – above ground, because it’s dark out – when he gets jumped by some scaly, purple demons with a lot of annoying spikes. He doesn’t know what they are; doesn’t care. He dispatches two of them without a hitch, but the other two prove more tricky. He finds himself with his back against a wall, his blows being parried with frightening speed.

Then there’s someone else in the fight, and he’s only fighting one demon, which he can manage. He punches and jabs, and has time to notice that the newcomer is tall and dark, and wears a long dark coat that swirls about him as he kicks and spins. Angel sniffs. A bit pretentious, that coat. He hasn’t worn a long coat since… early this century, when they were in fashion.

Still, there’s nothing wrong with the new guy's fighting. He quickly dispatches the demon, whereupon Angel’s demon shrieks and runs off.

Angel’s about to turn and leave, because he’s really not interested in people these days and he doesn’t feel the need for a post-fight chat, but the other guy is walking towards him with a smile, holding out his hand. “Captain Jack Harkness.”

Old lessons in manners die hard. He accepts the hand; shakes it perfunctorily. “Angel.”

Dark eyebrows quirk upwards and blue eyes dance at him. “Unusual name.”

“’S short for Angelus.”

He half-expects some recognition of the name, because maybe the guy’s a demon-hunter, but there’s nothing. Just more twinkling. The hands are in trouser pockets now, the eyes looking him up and down, considering. “You don’t look Italian."

“Not Italian. Irish. Originally.”

“Ah.” This obviously makes sense. A flicker of interest igniting, Angel uses the pause to examine the other man.

The new guy is not only tall and dark, but handsome. Almost too handsome. And oh, does he know it. There’s a devilish glint in the blue eyes, but he’s not a demon.

*falls over* Why didn't anyone ever tell me Angel is Irish? ... Does he have an Irish accent, too? Probably not, huh? Pity, that. I like Angel now. Irish. Yay! *bounces*

I like it. I mean. It's got action!Jack to the rescue. How could anyone not adore it *bounces some more*

Well, he's American now. He only has the Irish accent in the flashbacks to when he was Angelus - i.e. before he got the soul in 1898. And it's a pretty appalling Irish accent. *g*

Angel is good. You should watch, when you get a chance.

And thank you. As I said, it's very rough as yet and there's a long way to go, but... I actually wrote nearly all of that bit almost a year ago. My first attempt at TW fic. And I crossed Jack with Angel because there wasn't anyone else in TW that I wanted to write about. There still isn't, really. :-(

Bah. I love Irish accents. Every time I visit Ireland, I fall in love with the accent all over again *beams happily*

The actor is American, isn't he?

Jack works well with just about everyone, it's part of his charm. Plus, crossovers are always a good thing. I like crossovers.

Yeah, David Boreanaz is American. He's in Bones at the moment and I love his character in that too, though I haven't seen the last season and a half due to lack of time and an increasing amount of time spend at the computer rather than the telly... *g*

And yeah. You can cross Jack with anything and have it work. And he and Angel have a lot in common.

I just know that he's friends with Chris Kane. Who's friends with Jensen Ackles. Who's friends with Jared Padalecki. Hollywood is such an incestuous place. And I'm totally not writing Chris Kane/Jared Padalecki at all *coughcough*

True. Jack works with everyone, in every 'verse and with every situation. Yay. He's versatile *bounces*

Hah! This is the first time I ever used that word. Versatile, that is.

You should watch Angel for Chris Kane too. Season 1 and 2, and a few episodes of S5. Loads and loads of UST there. You'd love it. :-)

Oh yes, indeed. Chris Kane's character Lindsey is a sort-of bad guy, so there's a sort of love/hate thing going on. Especially towards the end of S2. *g*
