Wow – I made it! 10 things I hold to be my personal canon in Doctor Who. Nearly all of these are comments on the relationships between the main characters, because that seems to be what I'm interested in.
1. Rose is in love with the Doctor and the Doctor loves Rose, but there’s no way the Doctor’s going to let it go any further than just being friends. She’s too young and too naïve, and he’s too old and really, really not the man for her. She’s very special to him, particularly as she’s the first person to be there to lift him out of his depression after the Time War, but he’s not in love with her.
2. Jack and Rose are not shagging either. See Just Good Friends for my reasons why.
3. The Ninth Doctor and Jack start shagging very soon after meeting. They recognise kindred spirits in each other. Their relationship is very intense, and there’s a lot of power-struggle because they both have very strong personalities, but the Doctor usually wins. Jack’s happy with that, and he usually gives in gracefully. *g*
4. The Tenth Doctor and Jack begin with a very strained relationship, due to the Doctor's guilt over leaving Jack and Jack's 140-year obsession with finding the Doctor. By the end of the year on the Valiant, I think they've found a new balance. They're on a much more equal footing now, and I think they understand each other better.
5. The Master and the Doctor are definitely lovers, and have been ever since the very beginning. There is such a slashy vibe between them on screen, I don’t think I even have to justify that one.
6. Everything the Master has ever done has been designed to get the Doctor’s attention. He’s like a little boy looking for his older brother’s approval. (And yes, I know the brothers analogy doesn’t go with the lovers one, but they’re separate points, OK?)
7. In a military situation, or if there's no-one else suitable, Jack will take the lead - and do it very well - because that's what he's been trained to do. But he also likes to be able to hand over some (or all) of that responsibility from time to time. Look at the way he slips right back into his old role as the Doctor's lieutenant in Utopia.
8. Jack's a good old-fashioned gentleman. With everyone. And I love that.
9. I can really see Jack and Martha bonding over having left the Doctor. And I can see that leading to a sexual relationship (though it wouldn't have to). But if it did, to me that's the one relationship I can imagine writing Jack in which wouldn't have a clear power dynamic. Jack and Martha are both strong characters and while I can see Jack taking the lead, I feel it would be a very, very equal relationship. With a great understanding of each other too.
10. The Doctor and Martha. The Doctor doesn't love Martha, not like he loved Rose, but he does admire her very much. And he knows he could actually have a decent relationship with Martha – the sort of relatively casual, not love just sex, relationship she'd have with Jack – because she's a lot more worldly about relationships than Rose was. But he's not going there again, just in case. He's keeping his distance.
And since I'm here, let me tell you my viewing plans, because they're very much tied up with what I write:
Once I've finished my Nine/Jack piece, I intend to watch at least the first couple of episodes of Torchwood – partly so I can write
_medley_'s drabble which requested Jack and Owen. I also need to rewatch The Runaway Bride because
smithy161 requested Donna.
And I also need to rewatch one or all of the Master episodes of S3 so I can get going on Master Plan again.
After that… on with Torchwood, and then, DW S2, probably interspersed with TW S2 as it airs!

Also - yay for fic. Hopefully LJ-magic won't come along and ruin it, but I'm in the middle of yours now. Just in case you're wondering where it's got to!

Well, I don't think any of them are dramatically different from anyone else's on my flist - we do have something of a 'group canon' going on, I think! :-)
in the middle of yours now.
Yay!!! :-)

So you could just keep jotting things down as you think of them till you get to ten. Or post fewer than ten! :-)

And that icon of yours. I adore the original and I hate it being sullied by words... and yet the words are so absolutely perfect, and so hilarious that I love it!
