Second drabble for the meme here. This one's for [livejournal.com profile] seti_drd.

Title: Period Dress
Fandom: Doctor Who/Torchwood
Author: [livejournal.com profile] unfeathered
Characters: Jack, Tenth Doctor
Genre: Gen
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Vague for all of Doctor Who and Torchwood
Disclaimer: Not mine
Summary: The Tenth Doctor ponders on Jack's choice of outfit
Author’s Note: For [livejournal.com profile] seti_drd who wanted something Doctor Who/Torchwood.

Jack always used to dress correctly for the period. He blended into the 1940s, and then into 2006, with the utmost ease. Fourteenth Century Japan was harder, but he managed…

But now… He doesn't bother any more. It's as if the years of living in the slow lane have worn down his interest in blending in. As if he got as far as the 1940s again, and just stayed there. It's not an authentic 40s look – the hair especially is far too Twenty-First Century – but it's definitely an homage to the period.

The period when he met the Doctor. Huh.

That's... a really good point, actually!

Ooh, I like this! I had always thought trying to keep up with fashions that change through time would be too hard and that's why he kept the miliary look. I really like this take on why he chose THAT period though

The meeting the Doctor bit is two-fold... it's also the time when he went from being a con man and self-proclaimed coward to being a hero.

And then there's the fact JB looks damn good in that RAF coat. Of course he would look damn good in just about anything....

The thought occurs that he'd look better in just about nothing... ;)

Lovely drabble, by the way.

Oddly, that's exactly how I feel like at the moment (well, apart from the fact that I'm not dressing like I'm from WW2...), so thanks for this!

I don't mind what I'm wearing as much as I used to, I realized people who know me know what to expect of me, so I see no reason to buy new fancy clothes at all ^^

So with you on this one.

Though I was half expecting you to come back with 'one leg at a time...'
*sorry*

::kicks the Doctor:: Yes, wake up, hello! I love ya. Doc, but man, you can be oblivious.

Er. I shall stop ranting at a fictional character now and say that this feels very true and I like it a lot. And I'm glad certain people seem to be getting a clue there at the end. *g*

It's not that I'm missing the point - though it may have a lot to do with it being Friday and therefore judo night once again - I'm totally stuck back at the image of Jack blending in with 14th Century Japan...

Yes, you're being dense, Ten.

Love it :)

Oh, oh, oh. I've now got this great moment in my mind: of Jack, after decades of fitting into the 1800s and the the early 1900s-- from various uniforms to smart suits and tailcoats and straw fedoras and all-- donning a WW2 uniform and realising that it feels like home.

And of course, by the time we see him in Torchwood, he's got Estelle-associations to the war as well.

Well, as we know, it suits him. :)

The picture I ever looked at and really registered the hot was the userpic, so it obviously worked it's magic on me.
