Our mini fruit orchard arrived today and Andy and I have just spent the last half-hour potting them up! It's silly, but I feel really excited to be the owner of a mini orchard comprising a Braeburn apple tree, a Conference pear tree, a Victoria plum tree and a Morello cherry tree! They look really cute all sitting out there in a row till we decide where to put them!

(Okay, I'll stop spamming you all now!)

It's a mini orchard that's like being landed gentry or something... Next year it will be Pimms on the terrace ;-)

*sniggers* Landed gentry who can take it with them when they move because it's all in pots. *g*

We have had Pimms on the patio, actually. Doesn't have quite the same ring to it though.

Oooh, that sounds so cool! Can I ask where you got them from? And how much room they take up? It sounds like the kind of thing we'd want to get excited about when we have our own place :)

I got them from Garden Bargains, after someone mentioned the offer on the Money Saving Expert site. Four trees for £30. :-)

They're very small - won't grow to more than 7 foot, I think it said - and you can put them in the ground or in pots. I was going to put some of them in the ground, but now that things are a bit uncertain I decided pots would be a good idea in case we move in the next few years. I assume they can always be put into the ground at any point in the future anyway.

*grins* Well, it's not really that that I'm excited about, though Andy did comment that this was the first bit of gardening we'd actually done together in ages. Mainly because I'm usually busy getting on with other things whilst directing him on what to do out there. :-)

That sounds exciting. I miss my own green thumb, that deserted me about 15 years ago after a strong showing. I have a hankering to get a composter, though, and try to start up again. Have fun with the orchard!

Heh, I'm not sure I really have a green thumb since I'm pretty terrible at remembering to actually water the things I've planted, but I'm getting better! I've certainly done really well with the lettuces and spinach beet I planted this year, though haven't had much success with anything else, mainly due to lack of water/feed, I'm sure!
