I'm not writing a long review because I'm knackered and want my bed, but just wanted to say that I wasn't really that excited about the return of TW but I sat down and watched it tonight and it was one *hell* of a lot better than I expected.
Okay, so there was too much Ianto, because they still haven't got any new team members (and I'm still waiting for them to explain why they haven't already recruited some!), and I've decided I really don't like GDL - I've tried, I really have, but he just makes me squirm. He's so wet.
On the other hand, the vibe between him and Jack was hilarious, because I really didn't think the writers would dare to make him *that* clingy, and yet there he was exactly as had been predicted in fanfic after fanfic - "I love him but I don't know how he feels about me." Brilliant! (Well, as long as they don't end the week with Jack declaring his undying - heh - love or something... Okay, now I'm scared.)
And then there was Rhys, working out the times of day thing. And Gwen pregnant - that was cool. And Jack's a dad! (Or is he actually the mother???) That was a fantastic reveal, and I didn't see it coming. I guess with such a small team, they're going to have to show them interacting more with people outside TW, and it was cool to see some more of both Jack and Ianto's families.
Apart from that, they've started a hell of a lot of storylines and I'm really looking forward to seeing how those develop in the rest of the series.
Okay, that wasn't that short in the end, was it? *g*

I'd already seen this one at the BFI screening and was really looking forward to it as I felt this format would suit the show better than the 13-story season. Was still as good as it was a few weeks back - some terrific set-up, great new characters, and I still jumped at the sneaky bait-and-switch with Rupesh. Oh well, at least Lois is still breathing! And I'm just fascinated by Alice and her story - what sort of father (a deceased mother was mentioned) would Jack be? And what sort of grandfather? Lots of bunny potential there!
And Gwen! And Rhys! And creepy children! And ice-queen assassins! And Jack, er, redecorating the Hub in fairly unique style.... Can't wait until the next part! :D

I feel bad about that, because I really do try to like everyone, or at least sympathise with them, but I honestly can't see what the Ianto-lovers love about GDL/Ianto.
(a deceased mother was mentioned)
Oh yes, so she was. I did notice that but forgot in amongst everything else (plus I was interrupted by hubby around about that point - that's my excuse)!
And Jack, er, redecorating the Hub in fairly unique style
Yeah. Have to admit, that would be a better cliffhanger if it came at the *end* of the series - after all, we know he has to come back from that - but it's still worrying what's going to happen to the Hub and everything they've got stored in it!
Also, my Master muse is expressing great jealousy at the idea that he never thought of putting a bomb *inside* Jack and watching the results. *g*

Yeah - he's... inoffensive at best, downright slappable at worst (can't stand hysterically weepy men!). And there's barely a personality there. I can't say that I hate the character in canon, that would be too much of an emotional investment, but I do have to avoid him pretty much entirely in fic as the fanon version invariably manages to hit every negative characterisation button I have and I don't want to carry those twitches over to the show! I can't work out what Jack sees in him in the show but find the canon relationship oddly sweet-if-uninvolving. Won't touch J/I fic with a bargepole, though!
Eh, no matter - there's enough in the whole set-up of the show that I can write to my heart's content without ever touching him. ;)
I think the cliffhanger with Jack's going BOOM is not so much "will he get out of that?" as "HOW will he get out of that?". I did have a bunny regarding that sort of situation that has now been dumped out of the hutch - going to be interesting to see how he manages to, er, pull himself together on the show....
Will add to the Gwen'n'Rhys love as well - they were great! :D
