Watched The Next Doctor last night with hubby and we both thought it was rather crap, to be honest. Neither of us likes David Morrissey, and we're both really fed up with Cybermen. Though the Queen thing was pretty cool. The special effects of the super-sized Cyberman were absolute pants and completely boring since there was no emotional investment – in the whole episode, really.

The only good bit was the last few minutes. The Doctor admitting that "They break my heart" (though shouldn't it have been 'hearts'?) was soul-wrenching, and I liked the fact that he actually went off to dinner with Jackson. And that he had someone to share memories with. That was kind of nice. But the episode relied far too heavily on the 'tension' of wondering who the other Doctor actually was and while I liked the reveal, it meant there wasn't much left afterwards.

I really can't think of anything else to say. Will catch up at some point with what everyone else thought of it!

Awww, I kinda like David Morrissey. He does a good "lost little boy", which is kind of effective when he's playing a character that's actually a schmuck.

Also, there has been much steampunk in front of me recently, so the sort of steampunk quality here was something I enjoyed.

I am a bit unhappy that they'd essentially recycled the "more human version of this inhuman creature" story from "Daleks in Manhattan"/"Evolution of the Daleks".

I haven't seen it yet, but I gotta ask "The special effects of the super-sized Cyberman were absolute pants"

Is that good or bad?

ah! That makes sense. Sorry!

It is funny, it's the same language, yet there are so many phrases that stick out and aren't used by one another

I guess my standards are lower. That which doesn't piss me off with shippiness makes me happy, although I do get a bit annoyed with RTD's subtle as a sledge-hammer messages: Slavery is Bad! Child Labour is Bad. (I don't THINK we got War is Bad in this one, but I watch a SJA just before it which was basically WAR IS BAD-and so are video games.)

If you get a chance you should absolutely, positively see State of Play, just for the OMG JOHN SIMM!!! and the awesome writing, action, direction and all-around slashiness, not to mention James McAvoy and the snarky brilliance of Bill Nighy. (Philip Glenister is awesome too.) You might still hate David Morrissey, though.

I hadn't seen the episode yet, so I didn't know who the next Doctor was going to be and now I'm sad. Eccleston was cute and Tennant was abso-freakin-soluelty adorable, but Morrissey doesn't really do anything for me. That might change once I've seen him in the actual role, as apposed to just pictures, but for right now I'm very underwhelmed by the revelation. Excuse me while I got pout in a corner. *pouts*

Although, really, the Husband will probably be relieved as I won't be constantly making jokes about various male characters bending the Doctor over various sturdy, semi-flat surfaces and having their various ways with him - or chuckling sinisterly and that's just the same, because he knows what I'm thinking.

Yay! Since I hadn't seen it, I got confused, but now I'm much happier. Thank you so much for clarifying that! *hugs*
