Wow, oh wow!
This episode certainly hit the ground running. (Literally.) I loved the way that despite it being told more or less from Martha’s perspective, we weren’t told for sure until she went into the TARDIS just how much she knew. Loved the way hints were given and then built on that she hadn’t lost her memory along with the Doctor – and the way she clung to the TARDIS and the Doctor’s ‘instructions’ video because that was all she had of him now.
I loved David Tennant with a posh accent. Very, very sexy. I was also interested by Martha sounding a little more posh, presumably from hearing it all around her. Though Jenny wasn’t at all posh.
Oh, and did everyone else just want to pause the screen over and over while they were looking at the journal?
Scary scarecrows. Very scary scarecrows. Especially the stitched-shut eyes and mouths.
I felt the bit with the boys shooting at ‘Africans’ was a bit heavy-handed with the ‘message’ that war is wrong (duh!). And did anyone else expect the dummies they were shooting at to come to life like the scarecrows?
Loved the slap.
Why wasn’t Martha given the watch to look after? At least she knew how important it was.
Why did Martha say “two months”? Was it that the Doctor assumed the Family would have stopped looking for him by them? Didn’t he tell her what to do if they found him???
Can’t wait for next week now. Definitely going to have to watch this one again before then!
9/10
ETA I forgot to mention how wonderfully quick Martha was to work out something was wrong with Jenny - and what a way to make sure! "Would you like sardines in your tea?"
