Reaction post - Journey's End (Doctor Who 4.13)

Phew! There was a lot there, and I've probably forgotten most of it! Am definitely going to have to watch that one again! But here are the thoughts I have at the moment.

1. I loved the party in the TARDIS. I loved that they more or less forgot about TW (that was about the amount of screentime I'm happy with for them in DW) and brought back more DW characters - Mickey and Jackie - instead. That was perfect. Loved the Doctor and Rose comparing Gwen to Gwynneth too - there go all those 'just coincidence' theories! *g*

3. Told you you were all getting too het up about the idea of no more Ten. *g* Mind you, does that count as a regeneration? I mean, is he now actually Eleven?

4. The two Doctors thing... Despite the fact I do my best to avoid spoilers, I had read the odd bit of speculation during the last week, and I totally saw that coming. So that dear old Rose had a Doctor to take home with her. *pukes* Sorry, but that's so unfair. Rose gets a Doctor, and Donna gets EVERYTHING taken away from her? I was impressed by DT's acting, though. He did it very well.

5. I loved Jack deliberately getting himself killed... and Rose still not knowing what she'd done to him. In fact, it wasn't even addressed, was it? Concentrating too much on getting her her duplicate Doctor.

6. Martha finally meeting Rose. I'm glad they got on all right too.

7. All the German stuff. I bet my German-speaking friends enjoyed that bit! *g*

8. Davros showing the Doctor how many people had died or killed or were willing to do either for him. That was great, and amazing acting from DT.

9. Towing the Earth back home. Totally predictable and totally overdone cheesy music, but it made me smile, before the sad ending.

10. Wilf, at the end, made me cry. Well, that and poor old Donna having to go back to her old self, thinking she's not special etc. But that little exchange between Wilf and the Doctor in the rain at the end... that was beautiful.

11. Finally, yes I did watch the very brief trailer for the Christmas one and, oh for God's sake, not Cybermen again?

And why can't they have Jack coming back to keep the Doctor company at Christmas? *g*

12. Daleks going Exterminieren! How cool was that?

13. Jack's "You don't want to know what I'm thinking!" comment about the three Doctors. Pure Jack!

Well, no. But a nice side-effect. After all, part of the great thing about DW is that it doesn't take itself too seriously!

It was funny in a bad way, because when you actually understood the dialogue, the acting was horrible

I guess then it's fine, it's just the things you notice as a native speaker, I guess. You know, they sounded like actors learning texts by heart but not really acting at all...

There was just SO much in it, wasn't there? I'd forgotten the Gwen/Gwyneth thing. That was brilliant.

Completely with you on Rose getting everything and Donna losing everything. I don't know why they had to do that to Donna. They could have simply had her wanting to go home and appreciate the Earth having just come close to losing it. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but if the not-Doctor got to keep the human part of himself, why couldn't Donna keep the Time Lord part?

Too much for her brain, wasn't it? (Which feels very familiar to me, like something I've come across before, but I can't think what.) She was dying. Which seemed fair - couldn't have kept her like that - two Tenth Doctors gabbling away at once was already starting to get annoying.

And I think they probably felt the idea of her just going home was too close to what Martha did last year.

It being too much for Donna's brain was a copy of Rose having the TARDIS in her at POTW would have burned her up if it stayed in her.

NO FAIR about Donna though. *sigh*

And it wouldn't have been possible for Ten to then get all lip smacking and emotional about Donna at all? Oh no! That would have been wrong!!

The Doctor/Rose stuff, I am feeling a little less annoyed about because as Dune_drd pointed out, Rose hasn't actually got the proper Doctor, and also she's got what she thinks she wanted but will it actually make her happy?

On the other hand, I was sitting there last night thinking, what did Rose actually do? She came back from another universe but was it actually to save the universe or was it just to be with the Doctor?

ummm, what did she do- her coming back almost got the Doctor killed but resulted in him shunting that energy to the hand which saved the TARDIS when the energy trapped Donna in there so there could be human!doc and timelord!donna, thus Rose is responsible for saving the universe. yippie-do-da-do-da-day

a foursome! *yipes* nope, not me. but you have my blessings to take on that one

On the one hand I'm all WHEEE Cybermen - they are my favourite villains - and on the other even I am going WHY can't we have a new recurring baddie!! All the old ones keep on getting re-reintroduced (lets face it they have even left enough leeway for another Master) but there's not one New Series original bad guy out there!!!

Well the Sontarans aren't tin but I know what you mean... But if you were a script writer wouldn't you be knocking yourself out to try and come up with a baddie for the 21st Century? That will not only get referred to in more than one episode but *seen*?

For some reason - and I don't know what - I'm just not very interested in the Cybermen. Daleks, yes, I always found very scary as a child and I loved the return of Davros. But Cybermen, I don't know. I've just never found them as scary. They're just a bit boring to me.

I would love to see a really good new baddie.

But they were 'human' once... as a child that a being had consciously um - cannibalised - themselves into machinery was a very scary concept.
Daleks were strictly machines by comparison in my young eyes.

Well, I certainly never knew there were living beings inside Daleks when I was a kid - I assumed they were robots!

And, actually, I think I assumed the same for Cybermen too. I didn't know what the name actually meant.

The word 'men' in there didn't make you think about it at all?

I found Davros terrifying but as I assumed (or I didn't care to look and see) the Daleks themselves were strictly machinery.

I never really was 'into' being all out scared for fun...
