Tired and bored

Really, really tired today - went to bed early but still couldn't sleep - and feeling all shaky and can't-cope. Plus there's no work to do at work and I could really do with the distraction to be honest.

Anyone got any (work-safe) suggestions to occupy myself? Memes? Questions? Jokes? Hey, even drabble prompts might get considered. :-)

Gah, indeed. Sucks, doesn't it?

Cannot stand sweet tea, but I've had one and am thinking of having another. What I really need is sleep. But having that two-hour nap on New Year's Day (although it really made me feel better at the time) seems to have completely thrown my normal sleep pattern. Plus I've got that whole PMT tossing and turning and getting too hot thing going on.

Damn it, I'm tired.

“Happy birthday, Jack!”

Jack had turned at the TARDIS materialising, but he hadn’t expected to see the Doctor stepping out holding a birthday cake sprouting – he counted – thirteen lit candles.

He lifted an eyebrow. “I’m not thirteen.”

“Well, one for each century – that’s nine – and one for each year on top of that – that’s four.” The Doctor set the cake down on Jack’s desk with a cheeky grin. “Now you’re officially older than I am.”

“I’m not sure that’s something I want to celebrate.”

“Well, I do! And you’d better get used to it. You’re going to be older than me for the rest of eternity.”

“Oh, thanks! That makes me feel so much better!”

The Doctor gave him an arch look. “Want me to come and visit you at the end of the universe and make it up to you?”

“What’s wrong with making it up to me right now?”

The Doctor shrugged. “Right now is fine with me! Blow out your candles first, though.”

Jack sighed. “Seriously, aren’t I a bit old to be blowing out candles?”

“But I lit them and everything! Come on, Jack. You blow them out and then I’ll – “

“Blow me?”

“Well. Yeah.”

Glad you like it! Really didn't think I could write anything but it just happened. Obviously my brain isn't as far gone as I thought it was. :-)

I think the 'Jack being older than the Doctor' thing came from me playing Jack at 3,000 plus Becky's Ten going on about counting backwards from 1,000. *g*

I hate being stuck at work when there is no work to do, I tend to go through my memoried stories and reread them when that happens (reading Jades's Waiting/Watching years series can eat up a lot of work time- but in a good way)

Yeah, unfortunately, I don't have the attention-span at work to read anything longer than a ficlet - unless there's no-one else here. But today we were all here, so spent quite a lot of time talking, but hard to concentrate on reading anything. :-(

And, yeah, I know his age is all rather speculative, but in VotD he did say something like "I'm 903 years old", so I was just going by that. :-)

I love older!Jack. He's fascinating. That's, um, one of my pet storylines if I ever get to write for the show when I'm older. I have several.

But yes! Going to read it again now, I was in a rush earlier. And I'm very glad your brain is less dead than you though!

I'm only just really starting to explore older!Jack, but it's great fun and really interesting.

And yeah, I was feeling a bit better by the evening, though I'm not sure why. I did get to bed fairly early too - I'd closed down just before you posted this comment - and I did get a few hours' proper sleep in the end and feel a bit better today.
