Well, I have really enjoyed this season. It took a little while to get going, and for us to get to know the characters of his dysfunctional little band, but in the end I have really enjoyed getting to know them and am looking forward to more.

The finale, however, did feel a little anticlimactic. It's like, it had all the required elements - threats from everywhere, a bad guy (Narek) joining forces with the good guys for the greater good, old friends showing up just in the nick of time... but it never really got the adrenaline going. And Picard's head trauma thingy suddenly blowing up right at the end felt very contrived, especially as he *obviously* wasn't going to die. It was obvious his consciousness was going to be put into a manufactured body - I did wonder for a moment if they would use it as an opportunity to transfer the character to a younger actor but I guess there would have been too much of an outcry at that! Although when he reached out to touch Elnor I did think that it was going to be a katra transferral thing (like the reverse of Spock and McCoy) - which tbh would have fitted better for me with the events we saw rather than just saying afterwards, Oh yeah by the way they did a complete scan of your brain without anyone seeing...

I didn't really get how he was sacrificing himself for Soji, unless it was that he knew the stress would trigger his brain condition? I did enjoy the repeat of the Picard manoeuvre, though, even if (or perhaps because) it didn't come to much.

Also the purple wish-granting machine/sonic screwdriver was just silly. Surely they could have come up with something better than that?

But I can deal with all that. In the long run, it's the characters and their interactions that I watch shows for, and I really love the characters in this. I especially loved the brief portrayal of Raffi and Seven bonding in the aftermath - that's a relationship I could enjoy. Also love that Raffi now has a surrogate son in Elnor to replace her real son who rejected her.

And of course Patrick Stewart was absolutely amazing throughout, as he always is. :-)

And I do like the fact that Picard is now a 'human synth' and so in some ways the same as Soji. That feels like a neat way to round out what this whole season has been about.
