Yeah, the rooftop soliloquy (I think that's what we used to call it) is one of the best bits of Angel EVER. :-) I don't think Spike's in Angel again until S5 though...
And yeah, they are definitely not the same character, though they do share a lot of annoying traits. *g* I still haven't quite managed to work out if JM was trying for an English accent with John (mainly because he never managed to get Spike's accent very well anyway) but it definitely comes across as more of a mix of accents than Spike's, which is what one would expect.
