Well, at least we know now what happens when Jack dies by being split into little itty bits. We've been waiting a long time for canon to clear that up.

Although I'm still half expecting several other Jacks to turn up, who've grown out of the other bits left in the depths of the Hub. (And ewwwwww, trying not to think about that too closely!)

It seems to me that they've missed something though. The arm we saw sticking up out of the rubble was his left arm and his left arm should have had his wriststrap on it. You can't tell me that explosion left his arm whole but somehow blew the wriststrap off it??? So what happened to his wriststrap???

And is it gone for good???? :-( Or will John magically show up with a new one at some point. *g*

Huh!

See, in the promo pics for the series, I don't think he's wearing a wrist strap either (in any of them). Was he wearing it before the explosion at all?

*ponders*

*chips in* He was definitely wearing it before the explosion, because he used it to send Ianto up on the lift.

My personal guess is that it's like his coat and that he's had it long enough for the magic to wear off on it so it can't die either.

Hey, it's a theory ;)

It's TORCHWOOD!

That theory is absolutely as good as any!

It might turn up in the rubble. That would be excellent. I'm sure it could have a homing device put in. :D

Oh yes. Before John left, Jack put a homing device in both of them so he could keep track of the ex. John rings him after this is all over and gives him the back coordinates. Fixed!

AND it survived Jack's cling to the TARDIS through the vortex. A bomb is nothin'.

Okay. I'm happy now. I like the strap!

I love being in a fandom where NOTHING WE INVENT CAN BE CRAZIER THAN THE SHOW. And I must dig out my 'unexpected clothed Jack' icon for occasions such as this.

I'd forgotten the vortex, but yes, definitely. Endless infinity couldn't kill it, what's a little high explosive after that. Your explanation makes as much sense as any:

*ringring*

"Tallulah van Hardcore."

"You know, I'm not sure she'd like you taking her name in vain."

"Finally decided to chuck it all in and come over to the dark side? We have guns. And cookies."

"It's not your cookies I'm interested in. And how the hell do you have cookies?"

"Scout master."

"..."

"Well you asked."

"Yeah, I'm remembering why it's a bad idea to ask you to explain anything. Listen, I need a favour."

"That's going to cost you."

"Doesn't it always? What do you want?"

"If I say anything involving poodles, you're just going to say no, right?"

"John..."

"Okay, okay. Since you mentioned her, I'll take Tallulah's current whereabouts and call it quits. She owes me a drink. And a-"

"See, there you go, telling me things I don't need to know again. Locate that homing chip for me and they're yours."

"Now that's just not fair. How come you get yours first? Story of our relationship, that is."

"Just find the homing chip, would you? We had some trouble at the Hub and it's lost in the rubble."

"Seriously? So we're really talking about a pretty big favour then."

"John..."

"Nope, that's going to cost you more."

"What do you want?"

"Make me an offer."

*pause*

"When I said we had some trouble, what I really mean is that I got blown up into tiny pieces. As was everything I was wearing. When I came round, and once the screaming agony had passed? I was chained to the wall. And there was a camera."

"Done. Sending you the co-ordinates now. Opening video uplink."

OKAY THIS IS AWESOME.

D'you mind if I link? This solves everything! :D

*g* No worries. Although if you could give me...say...30 minutes, I'll work it up into something resembling fic (because I like it too!) and whack it in my journal. I'll drop you the link when it's done.

You've got a deal!

unfeathered, we done totes hijacked your review. :o Sorry! :D

BUT THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED!

*sheepish* Sorry, Unfeathered! But I come bearing fic *g*

Over here :)

I wonder if the part with the most brain matter is the part that regrows.

It does take the idea he's the Face of Boe out of speculation, doesn't it?

*snerks helplessly*

I don't make the assumption that the arm was in that good of shape right after the blast, given proximity. If he started re-forming from the head down, wherever there was enough of a gap in the rubble, it could already have regrown.

I have wondered if the coat and wriststrap don't kind of regrow due to Jack's subconscious assumptions. They didn't rot during 2000 years in the earth (though there's always the theory that time got bent to account for that).

When I heard them say there was part of his skull I was hugely relieved as I think I'd have had a hard time of believing that he was going to regrow without some bit if a 'head' there. A point I think I raised with you when you had Master Plan Jack getting shredded?

Hmmm multiple Jacks hey? Maybe one of them will turn up later with the SUV??

A brain bit's connected to a neck bit, a neck bit's connected to a shoulder bit...

I do cling to the belief that there would need be a bit of 'head' around amongst the other body parts for the process to start. Taht said, where there's one part there's probably others. Hmmm I do seem to remember reading somewhere that it's not at all unusual for pieces of the timing mechanism for bombs survive the blast and you can't get much closer than 'on the bomb itself'.

*eyes son's science experiment* (it's a comparison of how seed grow - so far teh ones that were 'planted' in pairs of seeds are doing a bazillion times better than the ones that were 'planted' individually). Of course being put together in that body bag probably helped those bits grow quicker... So tonight I'm expecting a new - slower grown - Jack to arise from the ruins of the hub ;-)
