My Buffy/Angel rewatch is going very slowly at the moment because I just haven't got the energy to write the reviews, but here's one to keep it going.

I enjoyed this more than I remembered enjoying it before, when everyone else thought it was hilarious and I thought it was vaguely funny and mostly boring. Mind you, I don’t think I’ve watched it since its original airings on Sky One and then BBC 2, and four years can make quite a difference!

I loved the gang waking up and their misinterpretations of the clues: Xander and Willow thinking they’re going out, Giles and Spike thinking they’re father and son, Giles and Anya thinking they’re engaged, Buffy and Dawn getting it right that they’re sisters. I loved Buffy’s “Joan the Vampire Slayer”, Spike’s “Randy Giles” and the interaction between him and Giles and his line about Giles’ car, and Willow’s repeat of “And I think I’m kinda gay”. I adored Giles and Anya as a couple: so funny! Interesting that Willow and Tara find themselves drawn back together again despite their original assumptions, while there’s nothing between Xander and Anya, though that could be because they weren’t on screen together for long.

I finally realised why Spike looked so awful and so very wrong – it wasn’t just the costume, it was the fact he had make-up on. I mean, the character had make-up on to make himself look less pale and more like a human. It looked weird. Oh, and another ‘eugh’ to Tara’s hair in the whole memory-loss section. Rats’ tails or what? Horrible! And a shame, as Willow looked so lovely!

I also feel that I understand Buffy’s depression so much more now. Now that I have experienced (and am still experiencing) post-natal depression, I can totally see why Buffy might feel depressed about having been brought back from Heaven and having to fight and struggle and take responsibility for everyone else. I totally get why she doesn't want Giles to leave: she wants to wallow and be the child, and with Giles there, she can.

The beginning wasn’t as boring as I remembered, either. I liked the episode starting with Buffy being in denial about Spike, and then Willow, Tara, Anya and Xander actually talking about the consequences of their actions. Beautiful scenes then between Tara and Willow, and Giles and Buffy – the actual ‘leaving’ scenes.

And I finally understood why the spell increases to those around the two it was supposed to be cast on – because Willow carelessly left the rest of her Lethe’s brambles sitting on the hearth and a spark leapt onto them. (I’m seeing so much more now I have clear DVD pictures on a big, good-quality screen!) Silly of her, though, as the gang would have worked it out if they’d seen them sitting there!

And as a final comment, how lovely to see Xander doing so well fighting against, and killing, the vampire in the sewers, protecting his womenfolk! J

I had this as 6/10, but I’m going to upgrade this to 7/10
