A funny and very cute episode with some fantastic lines and moments (I love Craig, and Craig/Doctor) but as I was watching it it felt particularly devoid of story. Maybe it was because it was Cybermen - again - and my disbelief at how there can be more Cybermen on Earth has reached its limits (though at least this was eventually explained by it being a spaceship that had crashed centuries ago). I don't know. It just felt rather nothingey to me.
I also got stuck on a couple of practical points which completely distracted me.
1. What the hell were Amy and Rory doing in Colchester??? Is Ledworth supposed to be in Essex (I never got that impression). Or is that house the Doctor bought them in Colchester? Why? Because he wanted all his friends near each other? As I said, this completely distracted me.
2. When was this supposed to be set? The way the Doctor kept going on about dying tomorrow, it sounded like it was supposed to be the day before that – i.e. on Earth, not just in his personal timeline. But it can't be, because at that point Amy and Rory were on their way to meet him in America, whereas it's clear that months if not years are supposed to have passed since the Doctor dropped them back off on Earth to give Amy time to have become a perfume model. So that's just weird.
3. Also, if the Doctor's going to die tomorrow, then is he now 1100 and something and this is him 200 years after he dropped off Amy and Rory? I certainly didn't get that vibe off him, in which case I'm confused!
Also also? Enough with the "I'm going to die" angst. At least Eleven is more stoic about it than Ten, but gah, it just feels like that all over again.
Funnest bit, though? Spotting Lynda Barron as the gossipy shop assistant, whom my son and I watch regularly in a children's show called 'Come Outside', and realising that that was recorded so long ago that it was actually closer to her appearance as a pirate captain with the Fifth Doctor in The Eternals than how she looks now! Timey-wimey indeed. *g*
