(Or perhaps I should be referring to it as the 51st DW serial. I'm not sure which convention is used!)
Wow. I don't think I've watched any of the Third Doctor serials (oh, except a short bit of The Mind of Evil on YouTube, in black and white) since I've been an adult. As a consequence, I had no idea that Jon Pertwee was so damn sexy!
Probably a large part of that was that I grew up with him as Worzel Gummidge, who was great fun but definitely not sexy, and only saw him as the Doctor later on, and only bits of it. Enough to know what he looked like, but not enough to appreciate him. He's cool and funny and hot and just huge amounts of fun!
I'm rather glad I bought five serials with him in! *g*
And wahey – we get to see the – Doctor in the shower!!! Looking pretty darn fit for a man of his age, I must say. And I absolutely adore the way he obtained his outfit from other doctors (i.e. the doctors' changing room in the hospital)!
It took me a while to get used to Liz (Shaw), whom I really don't remember from before, but I'd really warmed to her by the end. I wish she'd take her hair down, though – I bet she looks really nice with it down!
Interesting seeing the introduction of the Autons, because I'm fairly sure I've never seen any of their episodes before 'Rose'. They're bloody scary in this, as they are in 'Rose'. Though the Nestene Consciousness was just silly, really – a load of big tentacles wiggling out from a tank and strangling the Doctor. It was fun, though. The whole thing was fun. Lots of excitement and tension and witty lines.
Oh, I loved the Doctor trying to escape in the TARDIS, and the poor TARDIS trying to take off and the sound all wrong and smoke coming out of her, and then the Doctor shamefacedly sneaking out again. That was hilarious.
There's a bit of medical stuff at the start while the Doctor's in hospital – this is apparently the first time we find out that Time Lords have two hearts. There's also stuff about the Doctor's blood being alien and unidentifiable, and that he's able to go into a self-induced coma where his brain activity stops and his heart slows to 10 beats per minute.
Overall, very enjoyable and I'm glad I bought it. I've still got the commentaries (I think there's one for each of the four episodes!) and a few extras to watch, too!
And now it's late, I'm tired, and so I'm going to bed. :-)
