Well, all the driving went without a hitch. We made it down to Petersfield yesterday in 2 1/2 hours, arriving at 6.00 pm, with time for a shower and rest before going for a wander round Petersfield to see some of the changes since Andy moved away 30 years ago and then a very nice dinner in a little Italian restaurant. And then another drink in a pub he's always wanted to have a drink in. And we talked a lot about, you know, stuff. :-)
Ironically, since he's always joking about not being able to tear me away from my computer, it was Andy who was sitting there on his laptop in our room using the free wireless network - though it was to work, before dinner. And then we both surfed a bit together when we got back at the end of the evening, which was very nice.
Didn't sleep very well, because Andy was still snoring, all night. I kept drifting off and drifting back again. The bed (well, twin beds pushed together) was very comfortable, though, so I made it through today better than expected.
We made it to Portsmouth around lunchtime with time for a little wander before the boat trip at 2.00 pm. There was a chaplain on board and a short service before and after the committals - there were three other families there as well to commit their loved ones to the sea. Then we went to the church on the naval base where Andy's Dad's name will be written (in beautiful calligraphy) into the memorial book, and where Andy can visit (and we can take Jack too, when he's older) to remember his Dad.
Then we drove a little way to the guy Andy was buying his keyboard off and got that into the car without too much problem, though it did mean Andy had to sit behind me all the way home. But we made it home in 3 hours, including about 1/2 hour's break - which was pretty amazing!
We missed Jack like crazy and it seems he missed us too, because apparently he wouldn't go to sleep last night. He eventually went down about 1.00 am, and then apparently came wandering in to Mum and Dad with a cheerful "Hello!" at 6.30 am! But they've got through the day, and hopefully everyone will get a decent night tonight! It's a shame I'm at work tomorrow because I'm sure we could all really do with a day to recover, but Mum wanted me to have Friday off instead because she enjoys taking Jack to parent and toddler group on Thursdays. So I guess we'll all just have to struggle through tomorrow and rest on Friday instead!
So, anyway, I'm back, and will be around for a little while now, but I'm planning on going to bed pretty soon because I am really, really tired.
