On writing the Master (again)

I've figured out why that last chapter freaked me out so much. It's because I let the Master win. Completely.

Well, not quite completely, because the Doctor was holding out on him by being deliberately passive, and Jack got his own back by not giving the Master much info. on his death. But there really wasn't much hope in there for either of them. About the best that could be said was that they were still keeping going.

So I'm making sure there's a bit more hope in the next chapter. It's hard to get much in without alerting the Master to it, since he's telling the story, but I think I'm managing to make it clear that neither of our heroes is quite as downtrodden as the Master thinks they are... *g*

Yeah, I like it when it comes easy like that. (The writing, that is.) It's kind of stalled now, but that's OK because Jack's bound to wake up from his nap any minute so I'll have to stop anyway.

The SciFi Channel put commercials right in the middle of the phone conversation. I was all whiny about it. And grumpy because they left out Jack's "You too?" in response to Martha. Which makes Martha look pathetic.

Yeah, I saw about the cutting in your comments on Becky's post. Stupid people. I feel very lucky getting DW in its entirety and without commercials here. Actually, I hardly see any commercials these days because most of what I watch is on the BBC!

Oh, and Jack woke up right on cue. Literally seconds after I posted my last comment! :-)
