On writing the Master (again)
I've figured out why that last chapter freaked me out so much. It's because I let the Master win. Completely.
Well, not quite completely, because the Doctor was holding out on him by being deliberately passive, and Jack got his own back by not giving the Master much info. on his death. But there really wasn't much hope in there for either of them. About the best that could be said was that they were still keeping going.
So I'm making sure there's a bit more hope in the next chapter. It's hard to get much in without alerting the Master to it, since he's telling the story, but I think I'm managing to make it clear that neither of our heroes is quite as downtrodden as the Master thinks they are... *g*

Which is sort of the horror of the Year of Hell, because, just due to the timeline, there probably was a lot of just keeping going. And keeping going. And another day, another week... It hurts just to think about that.

It really does. Which is why there's more happy in the next chapter. Because reading very, very dark stuff is one thing; writing it, pretty much full-time at the moment, is quite another!
I've just spent the last couple of hours writing the de-aging of the Doctor and the start of what promises to be a slightly more enjoyable time for the poor fellow, with his old friend. Um, enemy. Um, well (what the hell) lover. *g*
(1,000 words in two hours. Feeling good!)

Oh, and Jack woke up right on cue. Literally seconds after I posted my last comment! :-)
