Fugitive of the Judoon (Doctor Who 12.5) - slightly more coherent thoughts
Further thoughts, without rewatching:
I called Chameleon Arch really early on, as soon as the cake guy started going on about Lee not having any background, and especially once the Doctor started going on about biochemical shielding or whatever it was. I didn't *really* think it was going to be a Time Lord, though of course if it was I thought it was going to be the Master, even though I didn't think they'd really have him regenerate so soon. So it was still an incredibly sweet surprise to find it was another Doctor.
Though even then, and even despite that gloriously shocking moment of the Doctor digging up another TARDIS, I was still seeing shades of The Next Doctor rather than her being the actual Doctor, and for quite a while I was poking around trying to work out how it had happened this time. (And hey, there are apparently Cybermen involved this time as well!)
But it does seem that she's an actual Doctor. Who doesn't know about sonic screwdrivers. So either *really* early (before Two), or mindwiped, or alternative universe, which is what I feel instinctively to be the case, especially with all that stuff with the Master and Gallifrey, so who knows?
And so there are now two Doctors on the run from the Judoon. That's pretty exciting.
Little aside: I assume the Judoon did not name themselves that. Because they don't have the sounds "u" or "oo" in their language⦠I wonder what they actually call themselves in their own language!
I adored the little bit at the end with the gang geeing up the Doctor, especially Ryan's little speech. That really gave me the feels, which I can't remember actually happening since Chibnall took over, so that was lovely. Perhaps it was leftover excitement from Jack and the other Doctor, or perhaps it's that showrunner and cast and characters are all now settling in and making good stuff. After all, I didn't like Twelve's first season either.
Also? Jack being incredibly Jack again, as he always seems to be on Doctor Who as opposed to Torchwood, was lovely, if a little jarring. I'd like to know more (anything!) about what he's been up to and how he recovered from all the grief and loss of CoE and Miracle Day. And how long it's been for him. I always thought if they did ever bring him back they could have him come from much, much further down his timeline, to account for him having aged, but the way they'd tried to make him look very much the same (even similar outfit) seems to indicate not. I guess his timeline is supposed to run more or less along with the Doctor's like the Master's always seems to, even though I have no idea how!
Something to look out for clues about when I rewatch. But in the meantime, loved him following Stephen Fry's mistake of thinking Graham must be the Doctor, loved the snog, loved him checking out Yas and Ryan, and was incredibly disappointed that he didn't actually get to meet Thirteen. But at least now there's hope that he may do, which is something I certainly didn't have 24 hours ago!
